[Visiting the UMNP]
The park is included as part of a visit to Tanzania's southern parks such as Mikumi and Ruaha. The road from Dar es Salaam via Morogoro to the park is accessible all year around. Flights can be organised from Dar es Salaam Air port to Kilombero, Ifakara, Msolwa (Selous Game Reserve), and Mikumi National Park airstrips.

Stop in Mikumi and take a bus heading for Ifakara. Ask to be dropped off in Mang'ula at the National Park.

Another means of transport is by Tanzania Zambia railway (TAZARA) from Dar-es-Salaam to Zambia via Mang'ula/Ifakara.

[Ecological considerations]
Udzungwa Mountains National Park is ecologically rich and support varieties of flora and fauna. These mountains harbours high rates of endemism might be as a result of very little destruction due to traditional taboos and beliefs as compared to other areas also due to good success in geology aspect.

The area acts as important water catchments, which provides fresh water throughout the year.

In order to maintain recreational activities with minimum environmental impact, it is necessary to bear in mind the following precautions:

Not to swim in Parks rivers and pools

Not to disturb wild animals in any way

Not to take any pets or guns into the park

Not to uproot, pick, cut or damage plant or be in possession of any part of a plant indigenous to the park.

Not to discard any litter (Trash in, trash out)

[Protection of natural resources]
The Park resources are guarded by a force of armed rangers distributed at Headquarter and four outlaying ranger posts. Antipoaching patrols are regularly under taken on foot, sometimes supported by vehicles and motorbikes.

The unit has the mandate of providing maximum possible protection to all biotic and abiotic resources, both tangible and non-tangible resources values as well as providing security to park visitors, employees and property.

[Collaboration with surrounding communities]
Local people are involved in conservation of natural resources and water catchments area. Besides the protection of water catchments area, the park is providing assistance with schools, dispensaries, income generating, projects, and other community initiated development projects.

Environmental Education is frequently delivered to local schools so as to instil knowledge and skills to young minds in primary schools. Community Education and Extension work are conducted for local people with the aim of negotiating for a change, raising concern and problem solving on environmental issues.

Agro forestry is undertaken to build alternative resources base, so that dependence on forest resources is reduced.

National wide revenue from tourism enables the park to expand its contribution to the local community, which has so far developed a positive attitude towards natural resources conservation and management.
